Manchester United chief executive David Gill has insisted the club has absolutely no intention of selling it’s biggest star Cristiano Ronaldo - whatever the price a potential suitor may offer.
Hot on the heels of rumors Spanish giants Real Madrid are lining up a sensational £100million swoop for the Portuguese international, Gill has issued a firm hands off warning to its rivals.
“He’s got four more years with us, has been with us for five and we’re sure he’ll be with us for many years to come,” Gill said in an interview with the BBC’s Radio 5 Live. “We’re keeping him. We’ve no intention of letting him go and will make sure he’s happy. He’s going nowhere.
“He’s at a great club, winning trophies, and enjoys it immensely here, so why would he want to leave?”
Gill underlined the immeasurable value Ronaldo brings to the Old Trafford club by declaring the player its biggest asset.
“We’re not a club that sells its main assets, to service our debts we need to have a very successful team on the pitch and you don’t achieve that by selling Cristiano Ronaldo.”
The only problem with the plan is Cristiano’s love of Spanish football, and desire to compete in the illustrious Spanish league championship. Although his immediate future may lay with United, it’s hard to see him remaining at Old Trafford for beyond much more than another season.
